iOS 10 Adoption Rates
Apple is one of the most widely used brands in the portable device market. Their latest operating system iOS 10 was announced to be available at the WWDC 2016. The updated system included major enhancements to the features of applications like; Messages, Maps, Siri, Photos, Apple Music, News, and more. The most prominent of its features was the new TV app and new emoji characters. This included improvements and additions to the already present pool of emoji.
Compared to iOS 9
iOS 9 was adopted and used by 88 percent of Apple users. iOS 10 statistics regarding its adoption rate have been published. It turns out that after the launch of iPhone 7 in September, it had seen a major rise. The statistics show that 76 percent of the whole pool of compatible devices have been upgraded to the current operating system. These numbers show that iOS 10 is being used on 3 out of 4 compatible devices. An estimate through the brand resources declares that about eighteen percent of the total compatible devices are still operating on the previous system, iOS 9. While a marked six percent are employing even older versions of operating system.
The last reading Apple published on Nov 27, the numbers were lower to a considerable extent. It was at a level of 63 percent of active devices working on the current operating system. Going a month back, Mixpanel, a research firm, concluded that the 50 percent adoption numbers of iOS 10 were crossed by late September. Per reports, the iOS 10 adoption rate was far less in the first two weeks of its launch. After the second week, the iOS 10 adoption rate took off to a steadily increasing rate. This does give the latest operating system the highest adoption rate in the first month of its launch.
There are assumptions that can be made to explain this irregular behavior. For example, Apple does not put pressure on its customers to update their system as soon as it is launched. This means that users who upgraded to iOS 10 stumbled upon the update due to the consistent use of Software Update. Of course, notifications are sent to all devices that are not updated.
When compared to the numbers of the previous month, the distribution of iOS 10 is just one percent above the numbers for iOS 9. This is determined at the same time last year. The past holiday season has no doubt, increased the number of iOS 10 clients. But not by a remarkable difference compared to last year.
